Cost

My rate is $140 for a 50-minute session.

I am able to bill to the following insurance plans:

  • Blue Cross/Blue Shield
  • Blue Plus
  • "Straight" MA (behavioral health benefits delivered by the government, as opposed to Medical Assistance with behavioral health benefits delivered through a private insurer. The exception is when the benefits are delivered through Blue Cross)

Important Information About Insurance

The reality is that therapy is expensive. It's best to check with your insurance company to make sure you are entering into a relationship with a therapist who will be covered by your health insurance plan. It is also important to know what your plan covers. The language insurance companies use regarding therapy is "outpatient mental health benefits," so asking for information using those words will get you the most accurate information.

Sometimes, insurance companies offer out-of-network benefits - some for mental (or "behavioral") health, some only for physical health. Whether you are using in-network or out-of-network benefits, it is important to pay attention to whether you have a deductible and/or co-pays. In most cases, there is a deductible which you must pay before insurance "kicks in" when using out-of-network benefits, and then the insurance company requires a co-pay with each session. With in-network benefits, generally there is a per-session co-pay set by the insurance company. There is no one set of rules that applies to every situation, so it is always best to check with the company and ask for details.
